Add another highlight to Frankie Vanderka's resume.
Vanderka -- who pitched Stony Brook into the College World Serieslast June with a three-hitter against LSU in the deciding game of the Baton Rouge Super Regional -- threw his second career no-hitter Sunday in the Seawolves' 2-0 victory over host Fordham.
In a game that was scheduled for seven innings but was scoreless until the ninth, the junior righthander from Levittown struck out six and walked three, one intentionally. Vanderka (1-2) threw 102 pitches, 71 for strikes, and faced only four batters more than the minimum.
"I just went out there and did what I normally do," he said, "and stayed down in the zone and attacked the hitters."
He added, "I tried to take it one pitch at a time, bear down, start throwing strikes and let my defense do its work behind me."
Rightfielder Tanner Nivins made a diving catch to rob Joseph Runco of a hit and end the fifth inning. "I definitely owe him a dinner," Vanderka said.
Fordham loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but Vanderka struck out Runco to send the game to extra innings.
Stony Brook (3-10) opened the ninth with back-to-back triples by Johnny Caputo and Nivins -- theSeawolves' first two triples of the season -- before Steven Goldstein added an RBI groundout.
Facing the Rams' 2-3-4 hitters in the bottom of the ninth, Vanderka picked up a strikeout, flyout and groundout to end his gem.
"Clearly this was Frankie Vanderka's day," coach Matt Senk said. "He was at the top of his game, mixing all three pitches, spotting his fastball and throwing plus changeups and curveballs. Just an outstanding performance by Frank to earn his second career no-hitter."
Vanderka also threw one at NJIT on March 18, 2011.
Fordham beat Stony Brook, 3-0, in the second game of the doubleheader.
